The Community Development Department is dedicated to facilitating the implementation of the City’s Vision Statement to provide a peaceful, country atmosphere through rural master planning. The Department is committed to providing responsive service to the public, establishing streamlined permitting processes and ensuring that new construction is built in a safe manner.
The Community Development Department includes two functions, planning and building. The Planning function includes both long-range land use planning and the day-to-day administration of the General Plan, Zoning Ordinances and the Development Code. The Planning function also provides staff support to the Planning Commission and City Council regarding development applications and proposals (Subdivisions, Conditional Use Permits, Variances, Site Plan Review, Ordinance Amendments. etc.). Community Development staff provides the technical information and analysis needed to help the decision making bodies make informed decisions.
The Building function is responsible for the implementation and enforcement of City and State codes relating to the construction, remodeling, alteration, repair and demolition of buildings within the City. The building function reviews construction plans, issues building permits and performs inspections to ensure compliance with adopted building and safety codes.
